There are ideas present in the memes that I have been analyzing that are a good indicator of what Muslims believe. The main idea that is being presented is that Muslims are not the violent terrorists that society often views them as, and that they believe in coexisting peacefully with others. This is an idea that is conveyed using sarcasm in the memes.

I think that this is an idea that is highlighted using memes because it is such a big issue in the world today. The fact that this message is being communicated in a sarcastic manner shows that the creators of the memes want people to think about how they are treating and viewing Muslims. The sarcasm is used as a way to emphasize how foolish Islamophobia is, and how it doesn't make sense when thought about in more broad terms.

The use of sarcasm in these memes relates and lines up with things we've discussed about religious identity in digital culture. Humor, especially sarcastic humor, is very common in digital culture, social media, etc. The anonymity of the internet allows people to post memes that may be considered harsh or controversial. These things combined are what give people the means and the confidence to post memes like this, which use humor and sarcasm to push people to think outside of their normal mindset.

  1. Remember to always draw on scholarly sources or course readings and lectures in your reflections. Also you will need to more clearly contextualize the stereotypes your memes communicate in a broader context. Consider sources such as Media, racism and Islamophobia: The representation of Islam and Muslims in the media by A Saeed in Sociology Compass.
